My Cabinet Choice is Completed!

Are you familiar with Thermofoil cabinet doors? If you're not, they are essentially cheap MDF doors with a smooth vinyl laminate cover. They have an attractive appearance, require minimal upkeep, and can be cleaned easily with soap and water. They look pretty nice, right?

The drawback of these cabinet doors is that they tend to peel due to exposure to high heat or moisture over time. This makes them look unattractive and can be frustrating when trying to open a drawer. This problem happened here, and action was necessary.

So, we had a few options: They could be re-Thermofoiled, we could purchase new replacement doors, or we could remove all of the vinyl laminate, remove all of the hardened-on glue residue, sand them, prime them, apply two (2) coats of paint, and finally apply a heavy-duty sealer. Can you guess which option I chose? 🙄😁

We began with the smallest ones. I regret not adding some graffiti to the doors prior to painting them; that would have been fun!

Here are some doors that have just been primed and getting ready for their first coat of paint.

As we were already putting in the effort to prepare and paint the doors, I opted for farmhouse pulls, which would look much better than the boring knobs we had originally. Therefore, the existing holes had to be filled, and new ones drilled as shown below.

Here is the final result after everything was finished.

For the final touch, I decided to remove two of the doors to reveal the cabinet we use most often, which is where we store our dishes, cups, and glasses. Here's how it appeared before applying some 'NEW' peel & stick paper. It's amusing because this isn't actually new; some of us know it as contact paper, but anyways...

Now with the paper added.

At last, the dishes, cups, and glasses have settled into their newly renovated home. They finally have a place to gossip about the silverware and plot their escape from the dishwasher! Who knew porcelain could have such high standards?

So, if you have these types of doors and begin to notice peeling, you might want to consider this option. I'm not going to sugarcoat it; it's certainly hard work, but it will save you a significant amount of money compared to other alternatives, and you'll have the full satisfaction of knowing you accomplished it yourself. Additionally, you'll prevent the doors from ending up in a landfill - always a good thing! Initially, I was intimidated by the challenge because I had never attempted anything to this extent before. Now that I've shown myself that I can handle such a task, with enormous help from Stephen, who knows what I'll tackle next? Stephen is hoping nothing... 😉

This Week’s Tea Spilling

Unfortunately, due to Thanksgiving and getting my Christmas cards and gift packages sent out, I didn't have time for this week's 'spill'. I will be back on the ball next week. I promise.

I’ll be back next Wednesday to show you what I’ve been working on. Hope you’ll stop by again for a visit.

I agree on the color. It's called Harbour in the Silk line of Dixie Belle Paints. Thank you for taking your time to comment. I appreciate it always.🐦
