It got a Little Too Hot in Here...

Writer: anupcycledartistanupcycledartist

A couple of months ago, I needed to melt some chocolate to pour into my molds for topping homemade cupcakes. Whether I'm melting chocolate or glycerin for my soaps, I usually use my double boiler. I use it about once a month and have been doing so for over 30 years, so I'm quite familiar with its operation. However, on this particular day, I completely forgot to add water to the bottom part. I began to notice a strange smell, and when I checked the upper section, I saw that the chocolate was barely melted. Once I realized what was happening—or rather, what wasn't happening—I quickly removed the entire pot and placed it on my cherished hot pad, which I had sewn entirely by hand. Then, I instantly detected another smell and discovered that not only was my chocolate ruined, but my hot pad was burned as well! I was devastated. 😱

Talk about crispy - you should have seen the bottom of the pot!

I decided to attempt to restore the hot pad as thoroughly as possible. The only method I could think of was to create a patchwork and cover the top, while also recovering the back.

Not too shabby, while being a little shabby chic.

A different patchwork was added to the 'frame', but this is how it ended up.

Not to embarrass it, BUTT here's its backside!

Since I enjoyed refurbishing the one burnt-to-a-crisp, I decided to remodel my others. Here is the original one of six.

I plan to be much more cautious when using my double boiler from now on. Hopefully, I won't forget to add the necessary water to the bottom of the pot again.

I’ll be back next Wednesday to show you what I’ve been working on. Hope you’ll stop by again for a visit.
