A Valentine's Day Swish

Valentine's Day is this Friday, and while many enjoy chocolates or a nice bottle of wine, some people either can't indulge due to medical conditions, dietary restrictions, or simply prefer to avoid the temptation. Soooooo, why not try something different? How about something savory, healthy, and presented in a distinctive, decorated, and recycled bottle? It's a win for both the earth and your calorie count! Let's get started, shall we?

I am going to use the deep rose-colored bottle in the middle for this creation. I applied gesso and then painted it with chalk paint. Like my wooden bottle holder for painting and sealing? Guess who custom-made it for me? 😍

After the paint dried, I decoupaged it with some napkins I kept in my stash, added twine to the bottom, and finished by painting an outline of gold paint at the top edge of the decoupaged area.

I liked the gold edging so much that I decided to go ahead and add more shimmering gold by outlining the entire decoupaged area. What a difference it made!

Of course, I couldn't stop there and had to add some funk, so I painted tiny white dots along the edge of the top gold outline.

Adding another gold outline above the dots just because I couldn't help myself... 😁

I painted only the upper part of the cork to avoid having paint anywhere it might touch food.

Here she be - the crowning glory of my recycled bottle! I just cut some wire, banged it around a little, then added some beads to it.

And for the finale... 😁

I really enjoy infused vinegar, and I discovered some excellent recipes online that would be perfect to add to this bottle. One recipe that caught my attention uses fresh rosemary and mint leaves combined with white vinegar. I think that this would make a delicious swish. However, there are numerous variations, and I'm sure you'll find one you like if you choose this option. Alternatively, you could add flavored olive oil. In any case, this would make a fun, thoughtful, and healthy gift.

This Week’s Tea Spilling

Grocery store prices remain high, with eggs and chicken topping the chart. Luckily for us, eggs are not on our menu, and chicken only makes a guest appearance now and then. Meanwhile, I enjoy sewing cat toys for my feline-loving friends, which helps me get rid of those pesky fabric scraps. Since I begin making my Christmas gifts while everyone's still nursing New Year's hangovers, I popped into a pet store this past weekend. I was astounded at the price of catnip that I normally purchase for stuffing the toys. Seriously, I bet you could snag a hefty bag of weed for less! I was surprised that the catnip wasn't kept under lock and key in a glass case. All I can say is that it looks like my feline friends are also going to feel the brunt of high prices this holiday season. Oh well, MEOW! 🤣

I’ll be back next Wednesday to show you what I’ve been working on. Hope you’ll stop by again for a visit.
