A Quirky Coconut Bowl

Do you recall those carved and painted coconut heads? They used to be popular at tropical tourist destinations like Florida and Hawaii. Who wouldn't want one looking like a pirate, monkey, or clown? I always found them amusing. I'd love to have a charming little monkey coconut head with a straw hat to hang on my lanai.

I didn't create a coconut head this week, but I did embellish a coconut that had been turned into a bowl. I didn't actually cut the coconut in half, remove the fruit, and sand the shell myself, but that's the process. I was lucky to get the bowl after someone else did all the hard work. 😎

It started rather blah, poor thing.

The bottom looked a little better.

They say it's what's on the inside, but in this case... 😝

It may look like the coconut meat, but gesso again!

I decoupaged the flamingo head on, then painted the background a lime green. It looks yellow in this photo, but it's not.

Added some of the flowers in clusters on the sides and bottom. Here, the lime color is more apparent.

I added some hologram glitter paint onto the floral headdress part.

I liked the glitter so well, I added more on the other floral clusters. I also painted the rim with a metallic rose-colored paint. And yes! My favorite dots were added on, too! Gutstah have the dots. 🤣

Here's a close-up of that lovely glitter.

Here it is completed and sealed with a topcoat. The topcoat added a nice luster to it.

I would love to put this on my lanai, under the coconut head monkey with the straw hat on, and use it for dry snacks such as: pretzels, crackers, chips, or even individually wrapped candies. I'm thinking those transparent fruity colored ones would look fab. But alas, since I don't have the coconut head monkey, this fun bowl will go to the shop, and hopefully someone will buy and enjoy it.

Thank you to all of those who liked my hand-painted bags last week. You really helped me out and I truly appreciate it. Big changes are coming shortly, so keep checking in to find out what will transpire.

"Yeah, you go get that bowl before someone snatches it up!"

I’ll be back next Wednesday to show you what I’ve been working on. Hope you’ll stop by again for a visit.
